Edit the berth plan in Live Update mode

In Live Update mode, you can edit the berth schedule. XPS commits any changes you make to the N4 system when you lock the respective vessel berthing or close the Berth Scheduler window.

In this mode, you cannot revert your changes. If you would rather experiment with different berth plan schedules, without committing the changes right away, editing in the PrePlanner mode may be a better option. See Create a long-term berth plan in PrePlanner mode (on page 1).

The following procedure provides general guidelines on how to edit the berth plan in the Live Update mode. Actual operations at your terminal might differ.

To modify the berth plan in Live Update mode:

  1. Open the Berth Scheduler window. (on page 1)

  1. Select the berthings you want to change.

  2. In the Berth Scheduler window, from the Actions list, select Unlock Berthings.

  3. To plan the berth and adjust the arrival time, departure time and visit duration, drag a vessel berthing along the berth and time axes.

If the berth's ETA/ETD is outside the range of the vessel visit's ETA/ETD, the new ETA/ETD values get assigned to the vessel visit's ETA/ETD to keep berth records in line with the vessel visit's ETA/ETA. This applies to both single and multiple berthings.

In XPS, you can see where there is a discrepancy between the vessel visit and the berthing times by a patterned fill in the berthing rectangle. The patterned fill indicates which portion is out of range of the vessel visit ETA/ETD.

  1. To view the berth from a top-down perspective, from the Display menu, select Show Overhead .

  2. If needed, do the following:

  1. Drag the black triangle on the time axes to the time when the visit is at the dock.

  1. In the Overhead view (on page 1), click a vessel visit and hold down the left mouse button until the pointer changes into a hand; then drag the vessel to adjust the vessel’s distance-to-dock. This can be helpful to adjust rafted positions, for example when loading and unloading to and from barges and feeder vessels.

  1. To check for and avoid conflicts, from the Display drop-down list, select the following:

  1. If conflicts occur, correct the berth plan as needed.

  2. To save changes and send updates to N4:

  1. Select File Print to print the berth schedule, as needed, on one to four pages to accommodate both short and extended time periods.
